Activities in the Area

We are only 5 kms away from the most-popular Robberg Nature Reserve; 4 km away from the Plettenberg Bay Country Club, 7 km from Goose Valley Golf Club and 15 km from the Knysna Elephant Park.

Robberg Nature Reserve

The Robberg Peninsula is a national monument, nature reserve and marine protected area that lies about 8km south of Plettenberg Bay - a prestigious coastal resort on South Africa’s famous Garden Route. The ecology of the Robberg Peninsula is similar to that of other rocky headlands on this coastline and it presents a fine example of how plants and animals adapt to the interacting influences of land and sea.

Birds of Eden

The spectacular and awe-inspiring Birds of Eden is the largest free-flight aviary in the world. The sanctuary encompasses 2.3ha of partly forested land, covered by a 3.2ha mesh and with a 1.2km walkway. Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace or should they prefer - request a guided tour at no extra cost. Guides are best booked 24 hours in advance to ensure one is available. The sanctuary is home to 220 different species & subspecies of birds totalling over 3500 birds. From the indigenous and beautiful Knysna lourie with its awkward call for such a gracious bird, the other lourie (Turaco) species, parrots, parakeets, waterfowl, flamingos, starlings, robins and graceful cranes. The sanctuary includes a deep gorge with a waterfall and the aviary is approximately 50m high, covering all the treetops and allowing ample flying space for its winged inhabitants. Being a sanctuary where many previously pet caged birds have now been given the opportunity to spread their wings, this is their first chance to make adequate use of their wings and to experience natural avian behaviour. This is certainly one of the places you must visit when in the Garden Route! You can spend an entire day at any of the sanctuaries. This sanctuary is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.  Wheelchair accessible. All Weather facility – during rain you will get wet.

Knysna Elephant Park

The Knysna Elephant Park (est. 1994) was the first facility in South Africa to house and care for orphaned African elephants. Over the last twenty years, the park has cared for and raised more than forty elephants. These animals include relocated animals, orphaned calves, and elephants rescued from culls. Some have become part of the resident herd, others have moved onto other reserves and facilities in the Western and Eastern Cape, depending on their personalities, bonds with other animals and welfare needs.
